Top Reasons Why You Should Re-hire Your Photographer
If you are an OG follower of mine, you may remember this family. They lived in a small apartment in San Francisco with a golden-doodle and brand new baby and had me photograph their first daughter. Well, fast forward 6 years and they are now leaving the Bay Area with their two growing kids in tow. In addition to having me photograph their oldest newborn, they re-hired me for their son’s newborn and recently for one last family session before they leave San Francisco. While the first two newborn sessions happened at their home, the final one just had to be held at the Golden Gate Bridge to get the full San Francisco vibe for their final photos before they moved.
There are so many reasons why you should re-hire your photographer for big life events like this family chose to do, especially if you’ve found one you love. Here are some of the most important.
Style- Trends come and go. Some photographers are more classic than others, but in general, a photographer will stick to a similar style, whether that be lifestyle or documentary or completely posed.
Editing- Most photographers stay consistent in their editing. My editing, for example, is clean and bright and airy. Some people have really warm edits, high contrast or dark and moody.
Prints and Albums- When you print your photos (which you all do, right?), you want to be able to make a gallery wall with them or print an album. When you re-hire your photographer their work is all consistent. I've used the same photographer for my own family for five years and every picture in our house looks like it goes with every other picture even though they were taken years apart.
Comfort- When you let someone in for big life events, you get to know them. They are there when you are at your most vulnerable. They celebrate new life with you and mourn sleep. It's an intimate relationship, and it's something that is so special and hard to recreate time and time again. They also get to know your kids so they can have some familiarity when they jump out of the car or open your front door for sessions, so it’s not a stranger asking them to smile each time.
Because You Love Them!
I am forever grateful to the families that have been with me through several life events, and love seeing my images grace their halls and night stands when I visit for new sessions.
If you are looking for your forever photographer, I’m your girl! I am a Marin and San Francisco family photographer (that includes newborns, too!) and love my Bay Area families so much.
