In-Home Christmas Photoshoots
Many families choose to do their annual photoshoots around the holidays, specifically in fall, so they are able to send out Christmas, holiday or New Years cards. When people think of Christmas cards, they often think of family photos outside. Here in the Bay Area, I offer sessions at some of the most amazing locations in San Francisco and Marin, but want to know what I think the most awesome location of all is? Your home!
Your home is where you spend making so many Christmas memories, from decorating your tree, opening presents and making cookies and gingerbread houses. It’s also where you watch your little ones learn to walk, talk and play! Your home is so special for so many reasons, which is why in-home Christmas photoshoots are one of my favorite things!
If you choose an in-home Christmas photoshoot for your family photos with me, we can tailor it to exactly what you want. Most of my families choose to do the sessions earlier in the season, mid-late November or the first week in December. This allows them to get their Christmas tree up and still have time to receive their photos in time to send out holiday cards. Many of my families want a sweet in-home session, with less of a focus on Christmas, and then some in front of the tree to celebrate the season, so they don’t decorate full force until after photos. This approach really takes it from just an in-home Christmas photoshoot to something you can hang on your walls year round.
If you really want to lean into the festive, we can always do a quick holiday themed activity like decorating gingerbread houses or cookies. If you do go that route, expect to have fewer ‘traditional’ images taken of your family in favor of candid action shots with the kids. We usually save the activity for last so we can get family shots with big smiles done, and we can use the activity as a little bribe to keep kids engaged and excited to be getting their picture taken.
